THE TRY GUYS: A PRIMER



INTRODUCTION

Everyone's heard of BuzzFeed. It's impossible to be on the internet and not have heard of BuzzFeed, at this point. With listicles galore and a ton of fluff content, the site is often put down and categorized as pure, dumb clickbait. The cotton candy of the internet, if you will. But did you know BuzzFeed also has an entire video department? You've probably seen videos on Youtube with names like "If Retail Workers Were Honest" or "People Try Pumpkin Spice Lattes For The First Time" - those are from BuzzFeed's video department. They're typically little skits or short experiment videos, meant to be fun and relatable, and then forgotten as you click on to the next one. But the best thing to come from BuzzFeed's video department?

The Try Guys.

The premise is simple: four good friends make videos experimenting or trying new things - often things that are unusual, embarrassing, or a new experience for them. Fun, right? Not only do they star in their videos, but they also direct, shoot, and edit them as well. They're cute! They're entertaining! Seriously, the boys are hilarious, up for anything, and incredibly close friends. Watch one video, and you'll have a laugh. Watch the whole series of Try Guys videos? You'll see that the friendship they have can't be faked. They love each other, in all the ways BFFs can love each other.

AND WHO DOESN'T LOVE BOYS WHO LOVE EACH OTHER?!

Also, they get naked. A lot.

What I love most about these guys is that they're game for just about anything - they're happy to be put in what would likely be really embarrassing situations for a lot of people. But they're cool with it! They have fun with it. And there's no worry or fear about trying typically feminine things - not all straight guys would be comfortable with that. The videos are just a lot of fun!

The Try Guys have been making videos now for a year, and have developed a great friendship because of that. They're always in each others' Instagram posts (@keithhabs, @nedfulmer, @eugeneleeyang, @korndiddy) and they Tweet each other pretty often. Plus, you can see from their videos how well they know each other and their personalities and mannerisms. And hey, do you like shipping? YOU CAN SHIP SO MANY COMBINATIONS OF THIS GROUP. Keith/Zach? Totally. (They're my secret fave pairing of the group.) Keith/Ned? Zach/Eugene? Eugene/Ned? Keith/Eugene? SO MANY PERMUTATIONS. Or you could just have a four-way love fest. That works too.

They're just the best, guys. The best. For evidence of how well they know each other and how close they are, give the above-linked "The Try Guys Imitate Each Other" video a watch. They're completely accurate and also adorable.

The Try Guys appear in tons of other BuzzFeed videos in different combinations with other people, and many of them are worth watching. Videos worth mentioning include:

+ Keith's Quest for the Best series that he does with Chris Reinacher is excellent, especially for people who like Keith. It's a food taste test competition series that includes a video entitled "Espresso-a-gogo in San Franciscoco", if that helps win you over. (Also, the "Frozen Pizza Party Tour" video features Keith's girlfriend Becky!)

+ The BuzzFeed Real Mature videos, specifically one starring Zach entitled Falling In Love As An Adult. It has Zach going through the "36 Questions to Ask to Fall in Love with Someone" list with three different people. If you're inclined to ship Keith/Zach, like me, definitely check this one out. (Spoiler: Zach falls in love with Keith. For that, jump forward to 14:22!)

+ Three videos that feature Ned and his wife Ariel: Couples Imitate Each Other, Football vs. Wife: Which Do You Know Better?, and Do You Know Your Husband By Touch?. They are so, so cute. SO CUTE. Ned loves his wife so much, guys. ♥

+ Eugene has done a couple videos with his mom that are really adorable: Asian Moms and Their Kids Imitate Each Other and Asian Moms Dress Their Adult Children. His mom is super cute and it's sweet to see his relationship with her!


CONCLUSION

In conclusion: The Try Guys are the best. I mean, it's cute dudes doing potentially embarrassing things, having fun with it, and being BFFs. In multiple short little videos. How can you go wrong with that?!

The Try Guys. Watch them. Enjoy them. Write them for Yuletide!
